The need for senior dog adoption is great. What makes each of the circumstances creating this need even more saddening is the fact that, despite the wonderful attributes of older dogs and all the best efforts of most shelters, these dogs are frequently overlooked in favor of puppies and younger animals. 

Thanks to your donations, we provide grants and other funds to pay expenses such as medical care, so the wonderful organizations that give these dogs a second chance can focus on their care.

Grey Muzzle welcomes six new grantees to the pack!

Photographer Hannah Stonehouse Hudson’s image of John Unger and his dog Schoep relaxing together in Lake Superior has been seen, and felt, around the world. Schoep, a 19-year-old Shepherd mix, has severe arthritis that compromises his mobility. John, who adopted Schoep at the age of eight months, takes Schoep to the lake regularly so he can float, free from aches and pains. 

Since 2008, The Grey Muzzle Organization has granted $230,000 to help homeless and at-risk senior dogs across the country. Meet Lollie (pictured), and others who have benefitted from the grants, and learn how nonprofit organizations are putting the funds to work to save senior dog lives!

The primary form of communication for dogs is body language. It is important for you to learn more about this language, especially if you are caring for senior dogs, in order to understand their changing needs.

Longtime Grey Muzzle grant recipient Old Dog Haven in Lake Stevens, Washington, recently posted this fabulous photo of senior Cocker Spaniel, Walter, celebrating one year in ODH's Final Refuge Program!
