How we help
The Grey Muzzle grant funding goes to Pawmetto Lifeline’s medical fund which helps dogs with medical needs, many of which are considered senior dogs for their respective breeds. The grant is applied to specific medical care and treatment of older dogs belonging to owners with limited financial ability to provide the needed care essential for the well-being of their beloved companions. The in-house Wellness Clinic at Pawmetto Lifeline provides the majority of these medical – and dental – services. Grey Muzzle funds are also directed to cover medical needs of senior dogs that they rescue from municipal shelters and prepare them for our adoption program.
About Pawmetto Lifeline
Pawmetto Lifeline is a 501(c)3 nonprofit animal rescue organization with a plan to end pet overpopulation in the Midlands through education, legislation, spay/neuter programs, and responsible pet adoptions. Its long-term goal is to transform the Midlands into a no-kill community, meaning no healthy and adoptable pet is euthanized simply because it is homeless. The organization also works to solve companion pet homelessness through its pet retention programs. Pawmetto Lifeline’s Pet Retention Program was established in 2015 to assist people and their pets with medical services so their pet can stay with the family. This program combines services that have already been in place, and further expands its offering of programs and services to provide a full range of resources that help individuals with limited financial ability to keep their pets and avoid surrendering animals to municipal shelters.

How we help
PAWS Atlanta is proud to receive funding from The Grey Muzzle Organization to provide medical and preventative care for senior dogs in need. Unaddressed medical needs can be a major barrier to adoption. This grant will ensure the PAWS Atlanta veterinary team can provide the care senior dogs need to be healthy and find loving homes.

PAWS Atlanta’s work and mission is about building a community of caring. Since opening in 1966, PAWS has rescued almost 49,000 homeless animals and introduced tens of thousands of people to the joy of having a pet—knowing they can enrich the lives of their pet and, in turn, knowing how their pet can greatly enrich their life. Programs include pet adoption and foster services, bimonthly vaccine clinics for the public, a pet food bank for loving owners going through hard times, senior support, and pet matching assistance.

How we help
A grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization will allow Paws Humane Society to provide medical, dental and preventative care to at least 25 senior dogs in Paws’ care to improve quality of life and ensure that these senior dogs find forever homes to live out their remaining years.
About Paws Humane Society
Paws Humane Society is the largest companion animal welfare organization in the region. Paws’ mission is to enrich the lives of both animals and people as a solution-based community resource for animal welfare by providing high-volume and high quality spay/neuter, rescue and adoption services, volunteer opportunities, outreach and education. The vision of Paws is to be the regional leader for animal welfare in adoption, spay/neuter, outreach and education to ultimately create a No-Kill Community.
Founded in 2009, Paws has been saving the lives of animals in need for over 10 years. Although Paws has only been in existence for a decade, its roots date back to 1969 when Colonel Syd Sacerdote established the first animal shelter in Muscogee County called the Muscogee County Humane Society. Then, in 1999, a group of animal welfare advocates who were dedicated to helping save even more animals created and started PAWS Columbus. By the year 2009, these two groups decided to merge together to form Paws Humane Society as it is known today.

How we help
This grant is made possible by the generosity of Laurel H. in memory of her beloved dog Rosie.
The Grey Muzzle grant will support the Labs 4 Life program, which, since its inception in 2016, has sought to end homelessness and improve the lives of senior Labs and Lab mixes in North Carolina. The program has four goals: (1) identify, pull, and transport senior Labs who face uncertain futures in shelters throughout North Carolina; (2) provide behavioral training, adaptive equipment, and medical treatment that will allow owners who are either financially or physically unable to care for their beloved dogs to keep their senior Labs in their homes; (3) address the medical and dental needs of the senior Labs rescued, including providing senior-specific diagnostic testing such as blood work, x-rays and urinalysis, as well as heartworm treatment; and (4) educate the public about the benefits and joys of adopting or fostering a senior Lab.
About Peak Lab Rescue
Peak Lab Rescue saves Labs and Lab mixes throughout North Carolina from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Last year, they saved more than 850 dogs, making Peak Lab the largest foster-based dog rescue in the state. They are committed to saving as many senior Labs as possible and giving them the best quality of life in their final years.
StuffyPennsylvania SPCA
How we help
With help from a Grey Muzzle grant, the Pennsylvania SPCA will provide transport and medical care for senior dogs who are at risk of euthanasia in overburdened shelters and promise them a second chance to find their forever home. The grant will help dogs like little Stuffy, an 11-year-old Shih Tzu mix currently looking for her new forever family.

Penny Angel's Beagle Rescue
How we help
Many senior citizens would love a dog or struggle to keep their dogs but simply cannot afford the health care bills. Grey Muzzle's grant funding helps Penny's Angels Beagle Rescue with medical expenses for adoptable dogs, so that those who can most benefit from their companionship will have assistance in their care. This includes dentals, special food, heartworm tests, meds, arthritis maintenance, and senior blood panels.
About Penny Angel's Beagle Rescue
Penny Angels Beagle Rescue is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to beagle rescue and community education of the breed. We provide rescue for beagles from New Jersey shelters, stray beagles and beagles from homes that can no longer keep their dog. We rescue purebred beagles and beagle mixes that are puppies, adults and senior beagles. We are based out of South Jersey & serve all of New Jersey and the tri-state area.
Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando
How we help
One of Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando’s (PAGO) major goals is to help senior companion animals live long, healthy and happy lives with their human families. Grant funding from The Grey Muzzle Organization helps to support their Pet Food Xpress program (PFX) that provides thousands of nourishing meals each year to senior companion dogs living with homebound elderly families in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties. Once a month, free of charge, volunteers deliver dog food that has been packaged by PAGO staff and volunteers to the seniors and their pets. All of these seniors are on a fixed income. Through this program, the seniors are able to keep their dogs in their homes while providing them with proper nutrition. PFX volunteers often visit with the seniors, giving them much needed company. During these visits, volunteers are able to identify specific needs of the pets that are then followed up on by PAGO staff.

As the go-to pet experts across Central Florida, the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando does good things for dogs and cats and the people who love them. Formerly the SPCA of Central Florida, our goal is to provide compassionate and knowledgeable services for pets and to be leaders in innovative animal care and veterinary medicine. More than 10,000 homeless dogs and cats will turn to the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando for caring, compassion, and hope through our animal shelters this year. Our highly skilled veterinarians will help and heal an additional 45,000 animals in our veterinary clinics. Providing shelter for animals in crisis, disaster response efforts, and pet food pantry for dogs and cats in need, we will help thousands of additional animals this year.
SnowballPet Animal Welfare Society of Connecticut (PAWS)
How we help
Thanks to the Grey Muzzle grant, PAWS can help more senior dogs like Snowball find loving homes through their Senior Pension Plan. As medical cost is the biggest deterrent to senior dog adoptions, PAWS’ Senior Pension Plan addresses this issue by 1) waiving adoption fees and 2) offering a free annual exam, vaccinations and annual blood work analysis for the life of the dog! Seniors like Snowball, a 12-year-old toy poodle looking for a place to spend his retirement years and who requires a much-needed dental surgery, is eligible for the Senior Pension Plan. Again, thanks to the Grey Muzzle grant, Snowball has a chance to live out the rest of his years as a great cuddle buddy for some lucky adopter.
About Pet Animal Welfare Society of Connecticut (PAWS)
Pet Animal Welfare Society of Connecticut (PAWS) is a no-kill 501(c)3 animal shelter dedicated to the rescue and adoption of the community’s homeless and abused dogs and cats. PAWS, founded in 1962 by Westport resident Betty Long and with seed money from her neighbor Paul Neuman, operates an in-house medical department to treat PAWS pets before they are available for adoption. Recently, PAWS implemented a new in-house spay/neuter clinic to defray the costs of medical care and reduce animal stress during transport.

How we help
Funding from The Grey Muzzle Organization assists Pet Helpers with the costs of medical care for senior dogs with health concerns, sometimes due to abuse and cruelty.
Dogs are either treated to prevent an owner surrender, or moved into foster homes until they recover and are adopted.

Pet Helpers’ is a nonprofit Rescue and Adoption Center and low-cost Spay/Neuter & Veterinary Clinic that serves communities across the Lowcountry. Their mission is to end the euthanasia of all adoptable cats and dogs by keeping all animals until adopted; providing low cost spay/neuter surgeries; offering humane education programs; pursuing animal-cruelty prosecution; and initiating animal-welfare legislation.
