Meet the Dogs

Meet Denver! This gentle nine-year-old was surrendered to the shelter, sadly, due to a divorce but now has a new start thanks to Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and The Grey Muzzle Organization.

Bingo was found wandering alone on a rural road, confused, tired and in some pain. He was taken to a local shelter and, shortly thereafter, transferred to Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation. Estimated to be about 12 years old, Bingo’s diagnostics and care has been ongoing since he came to Lost Dog a few months ago. With the support of Grey Muzzle, Lost Dog was able to verify that Bingo’s thyroid condition was under control by running repeat bloodwork.

Storm was found alone, hiding under a building in the midst of a heat wave and terrible lightning storm. He was suffering from heat stroke and unable to muster the strength to even stand up. His face and thin body said it all–he was sad, matted, and drenched to the bone. When his rescuers found him, he immediately drank all the water he could, searching for more.

Daisy is a ten-year-old Golden Retriever mix who was rescued by our new grantee, Golden Retrievers Acres Senior Sanctuary (GRASS). She is very sweet, loving, affectionate and playful, but was in desperate need of dental care. Thanks to a Grey Muzzle grant, Daisy received a comprehensive dental cleaning and nine necessary extractions.

Meet Phillip, an 11-year-old pit bull mix, who had lived his entire life with a family and children. However, Phillip's family moved and didn't take him along, so he found himself alone, sick and scared at the local animal control faciity. Philip waited patiently every day for his family to return, but they never did.

At the age of eight, Peanut found himself at Animal Care Centers of New York City. He was not neutered, had a skin condition (sarcoptic mange) and his behavioral evaluation with other dogs was questionable. His future at the shelter and finding a home was in jeopardy.

Teeny tiny Bug was hit by a car as a stray and brought into animal control. One Tail at a Time took her in and provided her with all of her needed medical care, thanks to their Grey Muzzle grant.

Bug recouped in foster care for many weeks before being healthy enough for adoption.

Lilly's owners brought her to Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) because she wasn't acting like herself. She was lethargic and would not eat or drink. After several tests, the JHS veterinary team diagnosed Lilly with Addison's disease, a life-threatening condition for dogs when not caught in time.

Sprite and his mom Linda got much-needed support from the Colorado State University Pets Forever program, thanks to a Grey Muzzle grant. At 14, Sprite has been a steadfast friend and partner for Linda, who jokes that they are navigating retirement together.

Swiss Miss, a shih tzu mix, came to Muttville Senior Dog rescue from a nearby shelter where she ended up after being found as a stray. This happy and easy-going senior dog had mobility issues and pain caused by badly matted, dirty fur and could not see because her eyes were crusted shut.

Meet Gracie, a 12-year–old poodle mix who was rescued as a puppy by her devoted human. She’s been coming to Pets In Need of Greater Cincinnati, Inc. (PIN Cinci) for low-cost annual check-ups and wellness services for several years and, other than cataracts, has had no health issues.

Many senior dogs are owned by senior people, and many senior people face memory challenges. Anna is a ten-year-old Labrador whose elderly owner found comfort in the familiar routine of feeding her. When Anna’s owner died in June, she was surrendered to a local shelter grossly overweight for her size.
