Opening its doors in 2013, Auburn Valley Humane Society (AVHS) enriches the lives of companion animals and people through animal sheltering, programs, and community engagement. AVHS is a community education and resource center where pets and people can come together for learning and assistance. They also provide programs and services designed to promote animal welfare, address the reasons animals end up in shelters, find forever adoptive homes for homeless animals, and help keep pets in their homes with the people who love them.
The Grey Muzzle Organization grant will allow Auburn Valley Humane Society to provide diagnostic and medical treatment for senior dogs in their care--dogs just like Presley. At 14-years-old, Presley's family could not afford the extensive medical care he required and felt he was suffering, so they brought him to AVHS as a public euthanasia request. AVHS staff gently convinced Presley’s family that he was not a good candidate for euthanasia and offered to take him into their program and give him the medical care he needed. Presley's family made the heart-wrenching decision to give him up, so that he could receive months of treatment and eventually land in a new forever home.
