Meet the Dogs

Gus and his dad Dave were inseparable for more than seven years. Even when Dave fell gravely ill, Gus was allowed to move into Dave’s room in a hospice home. Gus spent his days comforting Dave, but also visiting other residents, many of whom had lost their pets when moving into hospice.

Solana means sunshine, and this little gal really needed some sunshine in her life. Solana is a sweet, ten-year-old Chihuahua who was used for breeding for years. She was seized as part of a cruelty/neglect case.

Thirteen-year-old Farley was surrendered to a rural Ohio shelter. He was wet, cold and in poor shape with severe hair loss, arthritis and dental disease. Although his story was not known, it was suspected he was used by a backyard breeder.

Colonel Peanut came to the Sacramento SPCA, a new Grey Muzzle grantee, with congestive heart failure. This common diagnosis in small, senior dogs does not necessarily mean they don't have a good quality of life left.

Sweet Sparkle had spent ten long years in a puppy mill. Thankfully, she ended up in the care of Main Line Animal Rescue (MLAR) in Pennsylvania, where she could get the care and attention she needed to begin her new life.

Wilbur’s mom was referred to the Animal Care Assistance Program (ACAP) in Virginia by an area animal shelter. Twelve-year-old Wilbur was crying, acting as if he was in pain and drinking lots of water.

Love is blind and Penelope would agree. This sweet, 15-year-old Shih Tzu found herself at a shelter in New York because her family could no longer care for her. She needed both of her eyes removed due to untreated issues, and the cost of treatment and time to heal were both too much for the shelter to handle.

Chester was surrendered to the local city shelter and arrived dehydrated and suffering from vomiting and diarrhea. The city shelter stabilized Chester before transferring him to Grey Muzzle grantee Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) to receive further treatment for dental disease and be given the chance to find a new home.

Sweet Savannah has been in and out of shelters her entire life. Most recently, she came to SPCA Florida from a nearby, overcrowded municipal shelter. Being an older dog and with limited space available, she was at-risk of euthanasia.

Sweet 11-year-old Gianna arrived at Peak Lab Rescue (North Carolina) this past spring with a skin infection, scarring on her head and ears, and an old injury to her left pelvis that resulted in a slight limp. This silly lady is missing all of her upper incisors and has an adorable underbite.

Meet Leo! He is one in a million, but he is also one of nearly two dozen pups – nearly all of them seniors – that arrived at the Connecticut Humane Society as part of an animal cruelty investigation.

C.A.R.E.4Paws in California has helped Marcus and his eight-year-old dog Rocco several times over the years with vaccines and other basic services. Marcus is currently homeless and does the best he can for Rocco, but needs help with food and medical care from time to time.
